Lucy Karnani's Quiet Quest

Story

Hello dear friend,

I have written to you to ask if you will sponsor me in a rather unique challenge - The Quiet Quest - which is to take place throughout the month of October.

Since my return to Australia I have become quite involved with a wonderful, new, not-for-profit organisation with a big vision to take posture and movement, breathing, mindfulness and meditation from yoga disciplines to Australian communities living in hardship. It is called The Yoga Foundation.  I have joined the board and have also been responsible for managing one of the projects which takes yoga to a group of single mothers in the La Perouse Aboriginal Community.

The Yoga Foundation already has a number of projects up and running, delivering these yoga tools to people living with cerebral palsy, to others living with mental illness, to carers of people with disabilities, to socially disadvantaged aging populations, and to the group I work with in La Perouse. Our main ambition for 2014 is to help the returning soldiers from Afghanistan to deal with the mental trauma of their past years as well as to grow our existing projects so that more individuals can receive the many benefits of yoga.

To help fund these projects, I’ve committed to The Quiet Quest, and I am looking for friends to support me. For the whole of October, my challenge is to spend 30 minutes of Quiet time each day, for 30 days. That means I have to completely unplug: unplug from talking, unplug from electronics, to stop using battery power and fossil fuel power for half an hour everyday. That is, complete silence with no technology fueled distractions for 30 minutes for 30 days.

The money I raise will pay for yoga-based tools to be taught to Australians who experience hardship and who otherwise may not be able to access yoga. Please sponsor me for $1 a day - $30 in total, or even more if you like :-). You can easily make a secure donation by going to: http://quietquest.gofundraise.com.au/page/Karnani and clicking on 'Donate Now'

The Yoga Foundation has no salaried staff so 100% of the money raised goes directly to the cause. All donations over $2 are tax deductible and you will be issued with a Tax Invoice receipt via email as soon as you make a donation. (If you are one of my wonderful friends who live in the USA, you can still donate - as your credit card will be accepted, but obviously it won't be tax deductible.)

Thanks so much (in advance) for your support!

The Yoga Foundation

The Yoga Foundation believes more people can benefit from yoga, especially people who have least access to it because of their social circumstances or health conditions. We teach and share the benefits of yoga for maintaining good health, preventing illness, and supporting the allied health professions and the disability sector.

Our approach is inclusive and practical. Just $50 will enable a person with mental health problems to learn movement, breathing and meditation techniques that will improve their health and wellbeing every day.
